The Piano: Age Doesn’t Matter
No matter what your age, everyone can learn to play the piano.
Age is not an excuse to avoid to learn how to play the piano..
For many, the piano is their favorite instrument, but unfortunately, for different reasons, they were not able to learn how to play it in their childhood. Most regret this, but in their belief that they will not be able to learn as an adult what they failed to learn as a child, they do nothing about it. Is this really the case? Does it make sense to try to learn to play the piano — or any instrument for that matter — as an adult? Is there a point when it is simply too late to try to learn?
ADULTS CAN LEARN TOO
I think not. You can learn to play the piano as an adult just as successful as a child — just in a different way. Just because someone grows up, does not mean that they stop learning new things. But there is one important characteristic to keep in mind: children and adults learn in different ways. Children have the advantage that they learn in a playful and easy way, which can make learning the piano an enjoyable exercise. As a disadvantage, children have smaller attention spans and can often lack commitment to the regular practice required. Adults on the other hand, learn in a more concentrated and goal oriented way. They are also often more committed and willing to work diligently to achieve their goal.
PLAYING THE PIANO HAS ITS REWARDS!
What it boils down to is the joy gained from learning to play the piano. If you enjoy playing the piano and are willing to commit to what it takes to achieve mastery over the instrument, you will learn it. A presumed disadvantage in an adult’s ability to learn matters little in this regard. it does not matter if you are thirty, fifty or eighty years old, it is never too late to learn to play the piano. Their is no age limit for learning how to play an instrument. Of course, your desire to become an internationally known concert pianist is far less likely to be fulfilled the older you are when you start learning the piano. But other than that, there is no upper age limit.
To use a very trite and overused marketing slogan: when it comes to learning how to play the piano: Just do it.
